About ClearUnits
Our mission
ClearUnits exists to answer one question instantly and correctly: "how much is X in Y?" We built it because too many converter sites bury the answer under popups, hide results behind extra clicks, or use rounded factors that drift from the real value. Here, you type a number and get a precise answer โ nothing else in the way.
What we cover
More than 500 individual conversions across 10 categories: length, weight and mass, temperature, volume, area, speed, data storage, time, pressure and energy. Each conversion page includes the exact formula, worked examples, a quick-reference table and answers to common questions โ so you can understand the conversion, not just copy the result. Our guides section goes deeper into how measurement systems work and how to use them in real life: in the kitchen, on the road, on your energy bill.
How we verify our conversion factors
Every factor on ClearUnits is based on internationally recognised definitions: the International System of Units (SI) maintained by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM), and the reference data published by NIST (the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology). Where units are defined exactly by international agreement โ like the inch (2.54 cm exactly, since 1959) โ we use the exact value. Calculations run at full floating-point precision and only the displayed result is rounded, so rounding errors never compound.
Our editorial standards
Explanations and guides are written to be practically useful, not to fill space: real-world anchors, worked examples with actual numbers, and honest notes about when approximations are fine and when precision matters. Content is reviewed periodically and each guide shows its last review date. If you spot an error โ in a factor, a formula or an explanation โ we want to know.
Free, and staying that way
No signup, no paywall, no result hidden behind a click. The site is supported by unobtrusive advertising, which lets us keep every conversion free for everyone.
